WHO ex director Professor Adetokunbo Oluwole Lucas, has kicked the bucket at the age of 89.
Adetokunbo Oluwole Lucas was a Professor of International Health at Harvard University.
For over 10 years, Professor Lucas Adetokunbo served Director of Research and Training in Tropical Diseases at WHO and has great passion for his research projects.
“Nigeria, and the the world at large has lost an expert in public health,” President Muhammadu Buhari said in his condolence speech on Monday.
He described LucasAdetokunbo as a global health personality because of his outstanding support and passion for research on tropical diseases especially malaria, bilharzia and leprosy.
President Muhammadu Buhari said Professor Lucas Adetokunbo was the Head of Department of Preventive and Social Medicine in the University College of London in Ibadan, Chairman of Nigerian Medical Research Council, and Chairman of the Committee on National Health Policy and played a vital role in research studies in Nigeria.Professor Lucas Adetokunbo left a great mark in national imprints.
“Professor LucasAdetokunbo made his name and impact even beyond the shores of Nigeria”, the President added.
The Nigerian President commiserated with the family, friends, medical community and academia.
He urged former students and admirers of the professor to build on his legacy and always strive for national growth.
President Muhammadu Buhari prayed that God consoles all those who mourn Professor Lucas and grant his soul peaceful rest.
